The Kellogg School District has been awarded two significant grants that will directly support student learning and expand educational opportunities across the district.

The first award, the Expanding Arts Access in Rural Public Schools Grant, totals $3,947.75 and is made possible through funding from the Idaho State Legislature in partnership with the Idaho State Board of Education. These funds will help enhance arts access and experiences for students in our rural schools, ensuring that creative and cultural learning opportunities continue to thrive in the Kellogg community.

Elementary Music Teacher Jocelyn Cano was instrumental in developing and securing this grant to support KSD’s arts programs.

The second, and largest, award is the Idaho Career Ready Students Program Micro-Grant of up to $50,000. This program grant will fund the purchase of new equipment to support Welding and Agricultural Mechanics programs at Kellogg High School, providing students with hands-on, career-focused learning experiences that align with Idaho’s workforce needs. KHS Welding and Ag Mechanics Instructor Cory North led the development of this grant, which will expand access to industry-relevant tools and training for students.

Superintendent Lance Pearson expressed his appreciation for the dedication of staff and the district’s continued efforts to pursue external funding:

“We are humbled and grateful for these grant opportunities, which allow us to continue investing in our students’ education and future. The initiative and teamwork shown by our teachers and administrators demonstrate the heart of this district—finding ways to provide meaningful opportunities for our students.”

Kellogg School District Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (CIA) Director Nathan Whatcott played a key role in securing both awards through coordination and grant support.

While the district celebrates these opportunities, Superintendent Pearson noted that alternative funding sources are becoming increasingly important. Following the failure of the November 4th supplemental levy, district leadership remains committed to pursuing every available avenue to retain as many programs and services as possible for students.

“These grants represent the kind of partnerships and resourcefulness we will continue to rely on,” Pearson said. “Our goal remains the same—to provide high-quality educational experiences for every student in our district.”
